Easy Healthy ‘Nashville Hot’ Chicken Salad (High Protein & Gluten-Free!)
Our chicken salads have gone viral for a reason, so we knew we had to create a Nashville hot version especially since we’re based right here in Nashville. This Nashville hot chicken salad is bold, spicy, creamy, and packed with so much flavor that it genuinely does not feel like it’s healthy. It has all the creamy satisfaction of a classic chicken salad but with a fiery Nashville hot kick that makes every single bite completely irresistible. It’s naturally gluten free and made without any seed oils (like all of our recipes at healthykitchen.com), so you get all that flavor with simple, wholesome ingredients.
The base is Greek yogurt and avocado oil mayo instead of straight mayo which keeps everything incredibly creamy while adding a big protein boost. Combined with hot sauce, honey, paprika, cayenne, and garlic, the dressing has that perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and savory that makes Nashville hot flavor so craveable. Toss in some green onion and celery for crunch and you have a chicken salad that is anything but ordinary.
Make a batch on Sunday and you have two servings of a high protein, flavor packed lunch ready to grab all week. Pile it on a sandwich, stuff it into a wrap, scoop it over a green salad, or eat it straight with crackers and sliced veggies. However you serve it, this one is a serious keeper!

Ingredients
Chicken breast
The high protein base of the salad. Finely shredded using two forks or an electric mixer for the best texture that holds the creamy dressing beautifully.
Green onion
Finely diced for a fresh, mild onion flavor that adds brightness throughout the salad.
Celery
Finely diced for a satisfying crunch that balances the creamy dressing perfectly.
Plain whole milk Greek yogurt
The creamy, high protein base of the dressing that replaces most of the mayo without losing any of the richness or creaminess you expect from a great chicken salad.
Avocado oil mayo
Just a tablespoon adds extra richness and gives the dressing that classic chicken salad flavor.
Hot sauce
The key to that bold Nashville hot flavor. Adjust the amount based on how spicy you like it.
Honey
Balances the heat from the hot sauce and cayenne with a touch of natural sweetness that is essential to the Nashville hot flavor profile.
Paprika
Adds a warm, slightly smoky depth that rounds out the spice blend beautifully.
Garlic powder and onion powder
Add savory depth that runs throughout every bite of the salad.
Cayenne pepper
Brings the heat. Start with the full amount and adjust up or down based on your spice preference.
Salt and black pepper
Bring everything together and season the whole salad perfectly.

Ways to Serve
- Piled onto toasted sourdough or whole grain bread for a bold and satisfying sandwich
- Stuffed into a wrap with romaine lettuce, sliced avocado, and extra hot sauce
- Spooned over a bed of mixed greens for a high protein lunch salad
- Scooped with crackers or sliced cucumber and celery for a quick snack
- Served in lettuce cups for a lighter low carb option
- Stuffed into a pita with sliced tomato and cucumber for a Mediterranean inspired twist

Easy Swaps and Tips
- Chicken shortcut: rotisserie chicken or any pre-cooked chicken works perfectly here and makes this a completely no-cook recipe
- Heat level: adjust the hot sauce and cayenne to your preference. Start with the full amount and taste as you go. You can always add more heat but you cannot take it away
- Mayo swap: if you want to keep it even lighter just skip the mayo entirely and use all Greek yogurt. The creaminess is still incredible
- Electric mixer trick: if you want to shred a lot of chicken quickly an electric hand mixer on low speed shreds cooked chicken breast in about 30 seconds
- Make it ahead: this chicken salad tastes even better the next day after the flavors have had time to meld together overnight in the fridge
- Taste and adjust: before serving give it a taste and adjust the hot sauce, cayenne, and salt to your preference since everyone has a different spice tolerance

Storage Tips
Store the chicken salad in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days making it one of the best meal prep lunches you can make. The flavors actually develop and get even better after a day or two in the fridge. Give it a quick stir before serving and add a splash of hot sauce to freshen it up if needed. This recipe does not freeze well due to the Greek yogurt base so stick to making what you will eat within the week.
